Kartik Swami and Tungeshvar
Kartik Swami and Tungeshvar
Kartik Swami (10,050 ft) is a temple to Shiva as "Kartikeya's Lord;" the story connected with it ties the site to Shiva and Parvati's son Kartikeya. I've seen the site looking up from below, but my only attempt to visit in Jan 2020 was frustrated by ice-covered roads (so these photos come from Google Images). The temple is a steep 3 km walk from the road head at village Kanakchauri, which because of the altitude will surely be strenuous.
Tungeshvar is nearby, and thus a good site to bundle in a day's outing. It is accessible from the road so does not require nearly as much effort. Locals describe this temple (which I have also yet to see in person) as a "brother" temple to Chopta's Tungnath.
I'm looking forward to seeing new places!
